The Jacobite Rising of 1745 has fascinated, moved and inspired people all around the world for 275 years. The Battle of Prestonpans, an unexpected triumph by the untested Highland army over professional Redcoat forces, triggered a particularly rich and diverse cultural legacy which continues to this day. In this context, we believe the creation of new work is just as important as the presentation of the past. So to celebrate 275 years of creativity we are calling on young people from around the country to contribute to the telling of this amazing story.
We are calling on Scotland’s talents to create new written and visual artworks drawing inspiration from the Prestonpans campaign in 1745. The most imaginative, inspiring and creative entries will be published in a special book marking the 275th anniversary of the battle, and there’ll be holding events in 2021 to celebrate the resulting works.
All you need to know is on the relevant pages for your age group, as are details on how to submit.
Written entries can be in English, Scots or Gaelic.
There are supporting materials online to provide a bit of inspiration too!
The deadline for submission is 20 December 2020, the day the Highland army celebrated the Prince’s birthday.
